THIS IS HOW WE OVERCOME

PSALM 55:22

The year has not yet fully begun, and already there is so much anxiety, fear, and trouble. Politically, socially, domestically, there is much unrest, disappointment, and calamity. It is as if the devil couldn’t wait to unfold his agenda of woe and catastrophe for this year. His predetermined objective to steal, kill, and destroy has not been diminished but definitely amplified. Rest assured, he is not going to be doing less, but more. His is a program of intentioned evil intensified. It is incontestable that he has turned up the heat so much so that some are already having sleepless nights, restlessly tossing and turning. However, just as he is determined to cast down and destroy, we remain determined to fight and win. I shout to every blood-washed believer – we shall overcome in Jesus’ Name.

It is with a great sense of relief and deep settled peace that the good Lord reminded me again of Psalm 55:22 – “Cast thy burden upon the Lord and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” What a powerful message from Scripture to have impressed upon our souls and to live by in 2026. In fact, I believe this shall be one of my “lodestar” or “linchpin” Scriptures for this year. May the good Lord help us to use this as a mainstay against all our worrying and fretting in 2026. I know it may sound simple to do, but in reality, it is so much harder – Casting our burden upon the Lord.

The truth is, we often cast our burdens upon the Lord, then we take them right back. We say it, but we find it most difficult to live. We seem somehow to like our burdens. We become so attached to them even when they are crushing the living daylights out of us, making us literally sick, cranky, and unbearable. Maybe it is about time we make a pact with ourselves that in 2026, we shall lay down those burdens that are really too much for us to carry. You and I deserve to be better representatives of our Lord and ourselves in 2026. How can we possibly be effective witnesses of Jesus when we are just as worried and weighed down with care as the world.

Let us also understand that to be successful in our battle against the enemy, this is not optional, but this is a command. This is not just a mere suggestion or recommendation but a direct command. I see this coming to us not just from the Psalmist but directly from the mouth of the Lord to us, His anxiety-laden people – “Cast thy burden upon the Lord”. As the apostle Peter writes to the pilgrim people of God, suffering great persecution and indescribable hardships, he also diligently admonishes, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7).

Beloved, please let us stop living such deplorable and abysmal lives, bedeviled by worry and weighted down with crushing care. Let us take Him at His Word. He promised He shall sustain us. I pause and shout right here! He promised – He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved! We joyfully then cast every burden upon Him in 2026. This is how we overcome!
