GIVE IT A REST!

PSALM 37:7

What scary times! When we reflect on these present times especially here in these United States., if we are not careful, it is so easy to become panicked and even to lose sleep. Politically, things are so uncertain! It is said that the race is so close, according to the polls, that it is almost impossible to predict at this point who would win the election, causing so many to lay awake at night and literally stress out and fear. It is almost unreal, the tension and restlessness that many are now experiencing, even in the church and sometimes more in the church than in the secular realm. In fact, many are now worrying more than praying, panicking more than trusting and convulsing more than staying calm and doing like what the Word instructs – “Casting all your cares upon Him; for He careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7).

May I caution the body of Christ now more than ever – to never leave the place of prayer! We must remain calm, cool and collected, especially in these calamitous times of the now. We must diligently keep in mind that our Sovereign Lord already lovingly left instructions for us concerning these last days of the eschaton, declaring to us that strange and unnatural things shall transpire upon planet earth right before our very eyes. He unequivocally avowed “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they shall see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads because your redemption draws near” (Luke 21:25-28). What powerfully comforting words!

Of course, we must be concerned about all that is happening around us, but according to the divine script we are urged never to lose our divine perspective! We must conscientiously vote, as is our right and duty, but we must also do as our soon coming righteous Commander-in-Chief, Jesus, tells us to do – “Look up and lift up our heads.” We plain refuse to have heart failure or to despair.

We heartily participate in the process down here, but it is never lost upon us that our citizenship, our true citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20). We belong to God’s heavenly kingdom above anything else. We represent the true King before loyalty to any political party or affiliation. We are first and foremost members one of another. The fellowship of the brotherhood must never be broken or destroyed over any political views or affiliation.

Brethren during this political context in which we find ourselves, may we remain positively calm and restful, confident in the fact that our Supreme Redeemer remains sovereign overall and that it is in and by Him that all things hold together. Nothing happens without His knowledge or beyond His purview. Let’s do like what His Word says, “Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him: Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass” (Psalm 37:7). Church, rest in the Lord! Give anxiety and nervous panic a rest!
