PSALM 56:9
Knowing that God is for us is indeed revolutionary and transformational. Here, we are not asking a question or surmising or supposing; we are simply stating a fact. It is standing on the liberating knowledge of truth, divine truth. It is an explosive truth that changes and colors every aspect of our lives as we fearfully stand and fight against every Satanic force and mischief in these closing, apocalyptic times. The Psalmist simply but eloquently states as he is fiercely attacked by vicious enemies sent to eviscerate and literally swallow him up alive, “… This I know; for God is for me” (Psalm 56:9).
Church, if God is for us, then we could afford to rejoice and celebrate. Today, we are not going to have a requiem or a funeral, but we are definitely going to have a celebration. In spite of all the last days’ scenes and scenarios actively played out in our eventful world, Jesus specifically cautioned us about how to conduct ourselves, especially in these perilous times of the end.
He told the church “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth, distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear and for looking after those things that are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh” (Luke 21: 25-28). As traumatic and tempestuous as the times will become, Jesus instructs the believers to look up with faith, enthusiasm, and expectation of their ultimate salvation and deliverance from this world and its unraveling. The world panics with perplexity, but the church looks up with great expectation and anticipation. The church is never God-less or destitute of His presence or protection, never orphaned or abandoned.
Like the Palmist positively affirms, we too agree and declare – This we know; for God is for us! This is the unalterable testimony of His redeemed society, the church. The Psalmist further states in the concluding verses of this illustrious Psalm – “In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me” (Psalm 56:11). God being for us really dismantles and disallows the enemy from successfully executing his evil schemes against us. It enables us to rationalize like Joseph “. . . ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good . . .” (Gen 50:20). It makes us say like Job and worship “. . . Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave and the Lord taketh away; blessed be the name of the Lord” (Job 1:21). We boldly declare like the prophet “No weapon that is formed against me shall prosper . . . (Isaiah 54:17).
That God is with us makes us more worshipful (v.10), more fearless (v.11), and more determined to be faithful to keep our vows of service to him (vv 12,13). How absolutely amazing and glorious to know that the Supreme, All-sufficient, Sovereign God of the universe is not only with us but is totally for us.
