SILENCING THE ENEMY

1 SAMUEL 17:51

David’s victory over the giant, Goliath, is a perfect example of how the Almighty operates. He magnifies His name when we are more than weak and all the odds are stacked against us. It reminds us always that we don’t have to be the most brilliant, eloquent, or the strongest. It remains crystal clear that the Almighty still chooses the base things and the foolish things and the weak things to bring to nought the things that are (1 Corinthians 1:28). I trust that we will remember that, as we prayerfully move into 2026. God uses the simple and the ordinary, the most unexpected and the least likely to advance His cause and promote His glory.

The Scriptures reveal, “And David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem, but he put his armor in his tent” (1 Samuel 17:54). We need reminders, constant reminders of what God has done. Some relics need to be treasured. They are constant, positive memories of God’s past dealings in our lives – emblems of victories of yesterday’s battles. It must never be forgotten how God caused us to so gloriously triumph over the enemy in the past. It really seemed insurmountable and impossible but all around us, are evidences of amazing battles fought and won. Our lives are littered with testimonies of His miraculous power, showing up and defeating the evil One every time. Goliath’s armor daily reminded David of God’s power and victory!

That day, Goliath became the dwarf and David the giant. Instead of Goliath intimidating David, David astoundingly knocked Goliath over and not just flattened him but decapitated him in front of friend and foe. He silenced Him! It is our strong belief and contention that our God knows not only how to defeat the enemy through us, but to effectively silence him.

In 2026, we, like David, must fight to win. We wrestle with the strong belief and conviction that our God is for us. We will fight every battle declaring and chanting “. . . If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31). We have the amazing assurance of His Word, that as we go forth in His name, we shall win! We are more than conquerors! (Romans 8:37). We shall not be defeated! He who has delivered us shall deliver us (1 Samuel 17:37).

Today, the proposed objective is not just the partial defeat of the enemy. We are not just content to wound the enemy and slow him down, but like David, we must go after him, nullifying his capacity to cause anymore real danger to the Church of the living God. David finished the job. He ran and stood upon the Philistine and took his sword and slew him, and cut off his head therewith (v.51). It turned out that Goliath was no match for God-filled David!

May God so help us to powerfully defeat the enemy this year and put his cohorts on the run. The enemy has done enough in our lives, our homes, our surroundings, and our church. This year 2026, we are coming after him. We aim to decisively slay and silence the enemy in Jesus’ name!!
