HEBREWS 1:11
It is a biblical fact that cannot be escaped or denied that God always has a man or woman for the hour. For every need and set of circumstances, for every specific, historical period – God has a man or woman He is preparing to pick up the mantle of leadership. After Moses, whom He called and used mightily to bring the children of Israel out of bondage, He then called and mightily used Joshua. He has a unique way of sometimes preparing His people in secret until their time of manifestation or revelation. Then sometimes almost out of nowhere they appear. He never leaves Himself without a witness. When the sun sets on one, it rises on another. When Moses died, we are told the word of the Lord came unto Joshua saying, “Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give them, even to the children of Israel” (Joshua 1:2).
After Saul died, God had already anointed another man, ready and fully trained. David was already anointed to succeed Saul and to faithfully lead the people of Israel in service, worship, and devotion to God. David was then succeeded by Solomon. It also cannot be overlooked that after the dynamic prophetic ministry of Elijah, God had an Elisha to step up to the plate and ensure that the prophetic ministry was carried through with dignity and excellence. Elisha unquestionably received a double portion from the same God who had commissioned Elijah, and then when Elijah’s work was done, He miraculously transported him to glory by a chariot of fire and whirlwind (2 Kings 2:9-11).
Today, I strongly believe that we too need to make the transition as God changes guards and changes methods and moves into another phase of operation both secularly and ecclesiastically. May we always keep in mind that the prophet may be changed, but it is the same God. The God of Elijah was the same God that confirmed Elisha and mightily sanctioned his ministry with amazing signs and wonders.
The kings and the rulers and the presidents and the overseers and the pastors will change, but God remains – “Our very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). The real problem comes when we take our eyes off Jesus and start focusing on humankind. Church, please know that – Our help, all our help comes from the Lord (Psalm 121:1,2). Hear again what the Psalmist contends in Psalm 60:11 and 12, and let it sink deep into our spirits – “Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man. Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.”
When all time is over, He will still be there. When policies fail and the politicians have fallen, He will still be there. The truth is, when we know like Elisha that God is our salvation, we will not be easily intimidated or shaken. God is our salvation – not our spouse, nor the government, nor our 401K, nor our savings account, nor even the church, but God and God alone! We look to Him more fiercely now than ever before. They shall all perish, but He remains! (Hebrews 1:11).
